A Framework for Untangling Transient Groundwater Mixing and Travel Times

چکیده

Understanding the mixing between surface water and groundwater as well travel times in vulnerable aquifers is crucial to sustaining a safe supply. Age dating tracers used infer apparent typically refer entire sample. A sample, however, consists of mixture waters with distribution times. only reflect proportion that under range tracer, thus their interpretation biased. Additionally, end-member models are subject various sources uncertainties, which neglected. In this study, we introduce new framework untangles ratios using novel combination in-situ noble gas analyses. We applied approach during pumping test carried out pre-alpine Swiss valley. First, calculated transient recently infiltrated river regional present wellfield, helium-4 concentrations combined Bayesian model. Having identified fraction (Frw) consequently allowed us from estimated based on radon-222 activities Frw. Furthermore, compared tracer-based estimates Frw results calibrated numerical demonstrate (i) partitioning major enables meaningful an age tracer interest (ii) streambed has control

A Random Walk with Exponential Travel Times

Consider the random walk among N places with N(N - 1)/2 transports. We attach an exponential random variable Xij to each transport between places Pi and Pj and take these random variables mutually independent. If transports are possible or impossible independently with probability p and 1-p, respectively, then we give a lower bound for the distribution function of the smallest path at point log...

A complex variable boundary-element strategy for determining groundwater flownets and travel times

The complex variable boundary-element method is routinely used to determine the complex potential, h 1⁄4 / þ iw, at any position, z 1⁄4 xþ iy, internal to the flow domain. We reverse this mapping by exactly determining the complex position for specified complex potentials––in effect solving for zðhÞ instead of hðzÞ. Direct calculation of the physical location, 1⁄2x; y , of potential, 1⁄2/;w , i...

A unified framework for vehicle routing problems with stochastic travel and service times

Vehicle routing problems (VRPs) are concerned with the design of efficient routes that deliver goods and services from (to) central depots to (from) customer locations, satisfying specific business constraints. In the last 50 years, a vast amount of research has been devoted to solve different VRP variants. Nonetheless, most of the solution methods for VRPs are based on the premise that problem...

Determination of groundwater flownets, fluxes, velocities, and travel times using the complex variable boundary element method

The complex variable boundary element method, CVBEM, employs the Cauchy integral with any complex variable (e.g., complex potential, complex flux, or complex velocity) to solve boundary value problems. The CVBEM formulation is consistent with the primal and dual solutions of the boundary integral equation, as well as the analytic element method. The resulting problem is overdetermined because t...
